STICK UP FOR YOURSELF SON
The new song from Yeasayer comes complete with a slightly strange new video (above) and an even stranger interactive website. The latter can be seen at amblingamp.com, worth checking out both for the aforementioned strangeness and for a free Ambling Amp mp3. Also, if you're in the UK keep an eye out for Yeasayer dates in and about your place of residence early 2010.

I COULD MAKE A BRAND NEW START IN LOVE WITH YOU
I have heard lots about how great Girls are. It's taken me a while, but this song seems to have wedged itself in my frontal lobe for good. Does anyone else hear Elvis Costello when he sings though?
For more on Girls, go here.

Washed Out - Belong
This is a bit too summery for the autumn we're slipping into lately but if it's as sunny with you as it is with me today just remember that it's the weekend and turn it up.
If you want to hear more from Washed Out head this way or that and if you'd like something else to wrap your ears around try the excellent gorillavsbear.

WON'T LET YOU TALK ME DOWN
I hadn't expected to be excited about the new Twilight film, and to be fair I'm still not, but have you seen the soundtrack?! most ridiculous, and ridiculously worth getting your hands on. Tracks come from Death Cab for Cutie, Thom Yorke, Lykke Li, Grizzly Bear and this most immaculate song from Bon Iver and St Vincent. If it's still Sunday with you, put it on repeat.

I KNOW YOU FEEL IT TOO
There has been alot of good albums out this year but there are a few I'm still waiting on. Most will probably be edging in on 2010 for a release date (LCD Soundsystem, New Young Pony Club) but there is some brightness in our near futures. Tegan and Sara's follow up to 2007's The Con, Sainthood is due for release on the 27th of October and even nearer than that, first single Hell has just been released on iTunes.
Tegan and Sara - Hell
For more on Tegan and Sara you can check out their well updated and often highly amusing website or follow them on twitter. And if you're still hankering for more they feature on a track on Tiesto's new album Kaleidoscope, released today, called Feel it in my bones. Tiesto's a bit too trance nation-y for me personally but it's a pretty nifty song - Kaleidoscope also features Jonsi Birgisson of Sigur Ros and Emily Haines... worth checking out for those names alone.

I FEEL THAT NOBODY'S LISTENING
Jack Peñate's Pull my heart away, released last month and comes with Jamie from the XX's remix. Both are pretty nifty, and i'm a little startled at how much Jack Peñate's new stuff is growing on me...
Jack Peñate - Pull My Heart Away (Jamie XX remix)
I had a chance to see The XX live a couple of weeks ago, glad that they lived up to all the hype, if you haven't already listened to their debut album you really should...and if you have a penchant for receiving free stuff by email go to their website and sign up for some.

THE ESCAPADES OF EMILY HAINES
Sorry for the lack of updates lately, times are busy but there will be a bigger post later this weekend... but for now ...
This wasn't initially going to be an Emily Haines centric post, but she would seem to be the common element. First comes the video for Games for Days, from Interpol front man Paul Banks' new project, Julian Plenti. The album Julian Plenti is... Skyscraper is out now. Anybody with an appreciation for Interpol should have a listen, similarities are many.
Secondly comes The Crystal Method, I know very little about this band other than this song has been stuck in my head for a week now...

Gold Panda's Back Home, now with equally excellent video. If you like this and would like to call some of Gold Panda's stuff your own, go here and purchase the MIYAMAE EP, or the Quitters Raga 7" out now on Make Mine, recently reviewed most favorably by Pitchfork.

I'M BEGGING YOU NOT TO GO
I was a slow convert to Anthony and the Johnsons, but after seeing him play live a couple of weeks back I am wholly convinced of his greatness... This one's for anyone with a love for the unexpected cover version and anyone else who's found themselves still awake at this hour.
Crazy In Love will be released on the back of new single Aeon on August 3rd in Europe and August 4th in the US and if you get a chance to see Anthony and the Johnsons live I highly recommend it.

WHEN YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I'VE KEPT CLOSEST
When they describe their influences as Aaliyah to CocoRosie, Rihanna to The Cure, Missy Elliott to Chromatics, The Kills to Ginuwine, Pixies to Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake to Tracy + the plastics ... you know it can't be bad.
For more on The xx, be sure to check out their myspace even if it's just for quite possibly the best aaliyah cover since gossip did Are U that Somebody, and for more on how to purchase their debut single 'Crystalised' head in this direction ... You won't be sorry.

THEY'RE GOING TO EAT ME ALIVE
There is new music popping up all over the show, leaked and unleaked, and some of it free (in the 'sign up here for a free mp3' free, not 'follow this link to zshare' free - though i have an appreciation for both...).
For a perfect example of this, head either this way or that for a free download of the acoustic version of 'Help I'm Alive' taken from Metric's new album 'Fantasies' released in America and Canada on April the 14th. Well worth doing if you have an appreciation for free things and have had a hankering for the acoustic version ever since the first inklings that a new album was on the way...
