Arab Strap - Daughters of Darkness Sorry for the lack of updates lately. The gaps are getting wider I realise. I'll try to clamp down on that immediately. In an effort to do just that - some Arab Strap to start your Monday off right, the previously unfinished Daughters of Darkness.
The excellent Warpaint release the new video for 'Undertow' directed by bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg's sister and former Warpaint drummer, Shannyn Sossamon.
I might be a little biased with this one. My love for Sleater-Kinney will never die, if you find yourself in a similar state and have a little time on your hands while you wait for the reunion, you should go to Kill Rock Stars and download a free copy of the above or better yet, buy the album 1,000 Trees. That should be enough to fill the empty place in your heart where Corin Tucker's voice once resided but if you find there's still a little gap were Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss once were, exciting plans are afoot.
The Tallest Man on Earth - Wild Hunt I've been meaning to post something about The Tallest Man on Earth for forever, and after rummaging round these parts for a while, realise that I still haven't. To make up for this grand oversight, two of my most favorites in one post, hurrah! If you like what you hear and are in and about Europe some time between now and December be sure to check his tour dates and position yourself accordingly.
A slow start to a Saturday morning. Taken from Deerhunter's forthcoming album Halcyon Digest, due for release through 4AD on September 28th, the excellent Helicopter.
They've been mentioned before, and it's true our love for 'Can You Tell' will never waver. If you've found that you've loved them too you might be interested to know that Ra Ra Riot are set to release their new album 'The Orchard' on August 24th. If you can't wait till the 24th, there are a number of things you can do. Firstly, go to rarariot.com and sign yourself up for a free download of 'Boy' from the new album, secondly, the band have made a number of videos that you can peruse at your leisure. You can even enjoy one right now.
And if that still hasn't done it and you find the hankerings still there, the whole album is currently streaming on NPR, hurrah!
Good news for anyone who wasn't in the vicinity of Thao and Mirah and The Most of All's tour dates recently, Thao and Mirah are writing a record together! In anticipation of it's release in Spring 2011, a video from their collaborative U.S. tour. Know Better, Learn Faster.
Maximum Balloon - Groove me (Feat. Theophilus London)
Maximum Balloon is the new project from TV on the Radio's uberly talented Dave Sitek. If you like what you hear above, keep an ear cocked for the album, released through DGC/Interscope on August 24th.
A constant favorite from Sainthood gets it's very own video treatment courtesy of director Angela Kendall. Those uncomfortable with eye contact, look away now. For behind the scenes footage of the making of both On Directing and the future video for Northshore (premiering on August 10th) head over to the always entertaining teganandsara.com.
Interpol release the suitably sinister video for Lights, directed by Charlie White. Lights is the first single from their self-titled fourth album, to be released on September 7th through Matador, and available for pre-order now.
Are you familiar with The Joy Formidable? Long over due really. Mentioned back in April off the back of some free stuff which consisted of the ridiculously excellent Whirring, (did you download it? I highly recommend that you do). Since then, May 8th saw the release of their 8-song EP 'A Balloon Called Moaning' through Black Bell Records, which, if you haven't already invested, consists of a number of other ridiculously excellent songs including this.
The Joy Formidable - Austere
If you like what you hear above, head in this direction and if you get a chance to see them play, it would be foolish not to, not least to experience your hair and your heart vibrating simultaneously (and literally), or to bare witness to the currently modest but highly dedicated group of followers who trail them from venue to venue. They're a friendly bunch and the urge to follow is strong.
A favorite for forever, Arch M releases another video in preparation for the OAKLAND HUXT 12". If you like what you hear, have a look in this general direction for more, and to see whether he'll be in your vicinity this summer, look here.
We've talked about my love, and quite possibly your love for Thao with the Get Down Stay Down before. Mine is still growing, hopefully yours too. Currently on tour with the equally excellent Mirah as Thao and Mirah with The Most of All, most definitely worth a look if they're passing through your place of residence. If however they are not, tide yourself over with this, the video for the excellent Body directed by Glee's Dianna Agron, and debuting exclusively at Oxfam America. Good music and good causes; wonderful things are afoot.

If you like what you hear above, keep an eye out on May 4th for their new 8-song EP 'A Balloon Called Moaning' and for more on The Joy Formidable head over here.

Beaty Heart - Cola For the chance to call this your own and hold it close, and for more on Beaty Heart, head over to the excellent Tough Love Records.
LCD Soundsystem - I can Change If you're waiting for the new LCD Soundsystem album, This Is Happening, due for release on May 18th through DFA Records, you've probably already heard Drunk Girls, if your heart didn't beat a little faster at that, listen above, and after you've done that, feel free to palpitate.
Lykke Li - Complaint Department If you have a hankering for something new from Lykke Li, head in this direction and download a free mp3 of her version of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. And while you're waiting for that to download, listen to the most excellent Complaint Department above.
17 versions of the same song in one handy package. Tegan and Sara released the Alligator EP on Tuesday which along with Sara's original demo, includes remixes by Passion Pit, Four Tet, Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio, and the above from Toro Y Moi, among others. Enough excitement on it's own without their recent announcement of more European dates. If you've already got your ticket we can start the countdown to June together.
Exciting things are afoot, of which there are a number, but one of the most pertinent.... the new Bonobo album is on the way!!! And so to celebrate, the very first Bonobo song I ever heard (above) which is still one of my all time favourites, and the first song of his new record, Black Sands (below), one of my current favourites.
Black Sands is released on the 29th of this month, until then, I recommend you go back and listen to the most excellent Animal Magic all over again.
In a week of all round spectacular music related business, Broken Social Scene has decided on a name for their new album. Forgiveness Rock Record will be the follow up to 2005's most excellent self titled album (not including band members Kevin Drew's Spirit If, and Brendan Canning's Something For All of Us, both released in the in between). In celebration of this they've decided to give a new song away for free... Follow this link for a free download of World Sick. Forgiveness Rock Record will be released on 4th May, until then...
Nothing like some free stuff of a Tuesday afternoon... for your listening pleasure right click and save here. From Frenchkiss Records comes Local Native's 'Sun Hands' taken from the album Gorilla Manor and well worth a listen. For more on Local Natives, head in this direction.
It would seem I am slow to the boat when it comes to Thao but I shall make up for it with this, a Thao extravaganza of most momentous proportions, for those who are already on board and for anyone else still plodding in the general direction.
Thao and the Get Down Stay Down released their new album at the end of last year and named it Know Better, Learn Faster because, "By the time you realize you should, it's too late. And I enjoy the predicament and the totally devastating, unfunny humor of that". If you like the song above or that below, or liked this post, be sure to take a look here or here to find out more. And if you want to put something on repeat in celebration of your new found love head to Kill Rock Stars and download Know Better Learn Faster for free.
I thought I had already posted a Wild Beasts song but after a little perusing I realise I haven't... therefore it's a two for one of sorts today.
Firstly, the video for 'We Still Got The Taste Dancin' On Our Tongues', directed by Luke Seomore & Joseph Bull of Institute For Eyes was released today. The song is taken from the Wild Beasts' second album, Two Dancers, released through Domino Records in August of last year.
Secondly, and the song I thought I had previously posted, is All The Kings Men. Also taken from Two Dancers, and highly recommended.
Released today on Domino Records comes Four Tet's first full length album in four years, There Is Love In You. Definitely one to listen to from start to finish, and then listen to it again. Highlights include, Sing, She Just Likes To Fight and this, Plastic People.
Four Tet - Plastic People
Four Tet's highly recommended live show goes on the road in the US in February followed by the UK in March, head in this direction for the specifics.
This song was a recent discovery for me, found off the back of many people's best of 2009 lists, El Perro Del Mar's 'Change of Heart' with Lykke Li for back up.
